The OSU Couple and Family Therapy (CFT) Clinic offers diagnostic assessment sessions to help individuals and families better understand specific mental health concerns and determine appropriate treatment options. These assessments are conducted by trained clinicians under the supervision of licensed faculty and follow the standards outlined by the Ohio Administrative Code.
Purpose of Diagnostic Assessments
Diagnostic assessments are structured clinical evaluations designed to:
- Identify and clarify mental health diagnoses
- Assess emotional, behavioral and relational functioning
- Inform treatment planning and therapeutic recommendations
Common concerns assessed include:
- Depression
- Anxiety disorders
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Adjustment disorders
- Relational and family stressors
Session Structure
Our diagnostic assessment process typically includes:
- One 90-minute clinical interview session, during which the therapist gathers detailed information about symptoms, history, functioning, and relational context
- A second optional session to review findings, discuss diagnostic impressions, and provide a written summary or report if requested
These sessions are individualized, age-appropriate, and culturally responsive, in accordance with Ohio law and prevailing standards of care
