Premarital Therapy

Premarital Therapy

The OSU Couple and Family Therapy Clinic offers a five-session premarital therapy package for couples planning for marriage or deciding if they would like to make a serious commitment. Our premarital therapy services are inclusive of all couples.

Sign-ups are currently open. Couples interested in participating should reach out to our clinic complete a 15-minute phone screening and set up an initial session. To enroll, please send an email to CFTclinic@osu.edu or call 614-292-3671. The cost for participating in 5 sessions of premarital therapy is $100 per couple ($540 value).

Prior to your initial session, each couple will be asked to complete an evidence bassed relationship assessment that is designed to identify common ground and trouble spots in the relationship and help you and your partner have meaningful discussions about criteria proven to affect relational satisfaction. The cost for this assessment is included in the package price. The agenda for the sessions includes:

  • Session 1: 90-minutes: The therapist will ask you to share about your journey as a couple and discuss the results of the relationship assessment.
  • Sessions 2-4: (50 minutes each) Discussion will focus on common pre-marital topics and couple specific areas of interest. Couples will be asked to complete activities in between each session to assist in moving toward their overall goals.
  • Session 5: (50 minutes) The therapist will engage you in a final wrap up of your work together and ways to continue to move forward in your relationship with the knowledge and skills gained during this experience.

Previous clients have reported this time to be very encouraging and hopeful. These sessions are scheduled to meet weekly for 1 hour and provide a light-hearted and safe environment to explore strengths and areas for growth in your relationship.
